Digital Teaching Tool “Technologies for Grades 5-10”

By updating the digital teaching tool “Technologies for Grades 5-10,” we contributed to the implementation of the project "Creation and Implementation of Digital Education Content" organized by the National Education Agency. This project aims to foster self-esteem, respect for others, responsibility, healthy lifestyle, openness, and self-development values among students in grades 5-10. Additionally, the digital teaching tool will help improve technological literacy, understanding of entrepreneurship, design creation and application basics, and develop informational thinking. Most importantly, this system will nurture future creators who can apply both traditional and advanced technologies in their creative processes.

Five Technological Education Directions in the Digital Teaching Tool:

Nutrition

This module provides information about food groups, types of nutrients, and their health benefits. The nutrition module is divided into five additional topics where students can learn about healthy living principles, table setting etiquette, and Lithuanian culinary and ethnographic heritage. Students can apply their acquired knowledge in various interactive tasks, answering questions and solving puzzles based on the information presented in the module.

Textiles

In this module, students will learn about threads, their types, purposes, and the fabrics made from them. The textiles section includes information on fabric care, different clothing care symbols, and guidelines for washing, drying, and ironing. Students can also learn about Lithuanian national costumes, their different parts, and terminology from various Lithuanian regions. The module offers visual and audio instructions for sewing, crocheting, and knitting techniques. Interactive tasks include creating cross-stitch patterns, which can be automatically generated based on selected images and saved in the desired format.

Construction Materials

Students will become familiar with various tools for woodworking and metalworking, as well as electrical and construction tools, their purposes, and usage instructions. The module provides descriptions, examples, and physical properties of different construction materials. Students can learn product construction based on the technological production sequences outlined in the module. This information will help them understand the correct production sequences for different construction materials. Sample projects categorized by age group are available for inspiration.

Electronics

This module teaches safe behavior with electrical devices and appropriate actions in case of accidents. Students will learn about different electronic components, their purposes, and proper use. The module covers reading and creating electronic circuit diagrams, and provides information on robots, their purposes, structures, and control. Interactive tasks allow students to answer electronics-related questions and create their own virtual robots.

Design

The fifth digital teaching module introduces students to various types of design applicable in different life situations (interior design, fashion design, and industrial design). Information on ethno-design helps students understand Lithuanian culture and its characteristics. Interactive tasks are included to make the learning process more engaging and applicable in practice. The tasks are designed to apply acquired knowledge and express creativity.

Accessibility Features

The system is fully adapted for individuals with visual impairments. Every text in the system has an audio version, and users can choose different font sizes or enlarge illustrations based on their needs.

Project Implementation

The digital teaching tool “Technologies for Grades 5-10” was updated by the National Education Agency as part of the project No. 09.2.1-ESFA-V-726-03-0001 “Creation and Implementation of Digital Education Content,” funded by the European Social Fund and the state budget of the Republic of Lithuania under the 2014-2020 European Union Funds Investment Action Program, priority 9 “Education of Society and Increasing Human Resource Potential” measure (code 09.2.1-ESFA-V-726) “Improvement of Educational Content and Creation and Implementation of New Forms of Teaching Organization.”
